 Newsflash - Brockwell takes helm at ACCA
 ACCA has named John Brockwell as its new president
 today following a sensational no-confidence vote in
 president-elect Ray Gardiner this morning

 Gardiner was unseated after the association's ruling council voted 25-10 to
 support the motion removing him from the running.

 He should have taken up his post as the natural successor to Michael Foulds
 but was forced to stand down over his role in a disciplinary case involving
 guilty Robert Jackson, the council member who was found of backdating
 Norwich Union policy applications in order to get free shares.

 An agreed statement released after the council meeting said the vote had
 been taken 'following discussion of various corporate governance issues'.
 Neither Foulds nor chief executive Anthea Rose were prepared to comment
 on the move, despite angry questions from members during the 6 May agm.

 Former council member Anthony Thomas said: 'I suggest that the vote of no
 confidence should really have been taken against those who voted for his
 removal.'

 It is unclear whether Gardiner will remain on the council after Brockwell takes
 over as president. Moyra Kedslie, senior lecturer at the Hull University,
 becomes deputy president.
