ACCA IN FURTHER ATTEMPTS TO SILENCE MALAYSIAN MEMBERS

It is now well known that ACCA members in Malaysia want autonomy and do not wish to be controlled from London. Former ACCA President Michael Harvey and  former Council  member Anthony Thomas are visiting Malaysia to speak to members.

Obviously, ACCA's controllers in London are not going to allow this and are kicking up fuss. The letters sent by ACCA chief executive (see below) tell their own story.

AABA encourages ACCA members all over the world to demand that they be treated as equals. They should demand independence from London and become masters of their own destiny and develop their own social infrastructure. At the very least ACCA members should demand a United Nations type of struture with each global area having full autonomy to make its own rules.

 Dear Ms Ho

My attention has been drawn to an advertisement in the Daily Star of 3 April 2000 for a One Day Conference on Financial and Practice Management to take place on 11 April. The conference is stated as being in collaboration with ACCA Malaysia and the ACCA logo, as at the top of this letter, is used.

Please note that ACCA Malaysia is not the official organisation which represents the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in Malaysia. As such, it is not entitled to use the ACCA logo. Please ensure that the ACCA logo does not appear in any further advertisements. Similarly, please also note that there is no such organisation as ACCA UK as shown after the names of Messrs Harvey and Thomas.

Please confirm that the ACCA logo will not be used again in any unauthorised way and that any future reference to ACCA will be correct.

 Yours sincerely

 Dear Ms Ho

I write further to my letter of yesterday about the Daily Star advertisement. I look forward to receiving your early reply.

In the meantime, I have now seen invitations which MIA has issued to ACCA members to attend the seminar on 11 April at a reduced price and to participate in an ACCA members' dialogue. I note the use again of ACCA's official logo. Furthermore, it seems that the regulatory body for the whole profession in Malaysia considers it appropriate to give rebates to members of one particular body (ACCA) and, more particularly, to host a meeting for ACCA members which is not organised by ACCA's own office in Malaysia. I would be grateful if you would please let me know why this is so. It is extremely misleading and I need to have your immediate response so that I can consider what further action I will take.

 Yours sincerely
