ACCA TO HAVE A NON-UK PRESIDENT

In a response to AABA's campaign that has continued to highlight the imperialist and racist tendencies at ACCA, the establishment has now decided that Hong Kong based council member Sam Wong will be the next Vice President (from May 2001). As ACCA does not allow members to elect leaders, Mr. Wong would automatically progress to be the Deputy-President and then in 2003 will become the President.

An insider told AABA that that this appointment is a sop to the Hong Kong and far east membership as it is disillusioned with the leadership. Mr. Wong has not issued any statement to state the kind of changes that he would like to introduce. In reality, the appointment of Mr. Wong will be a cosmetic arrangement. The real power will remain with the unelected chief executive and directors. ACCA would continue to run on a colonial model with power residing in London.
