So what is the main concern of 75,000 ACCA members? It is accountancy, stupid!. Try telling that to the cabal governing ACCA.
The official job description of the recently advertised post of the
ACCA chief executive says that
"Candidates do not need to have an accountancy qualification". The
ICAEW's chief executive is a chartered accountant and a former PwC partner.
ACCA's current chief executive, Anthea Rose, does not have any accountancy
qualification. The leadership does not want to insist that the next chief
executive should have an ACCA qualification. Nice advertisement for the
value of ACCA qualification. If ACCA itself is not looking for someone
with its own qualifications, why should anyone else bother. Is it any wonder
that ACCA qualifications are not in great demand, or that ACCA members
are poorly paid relative to ICAEW members. How can ACCA chief executive
understand what ACCA members go through?
Isn't it time that members tabled a resolution stating that "ACCA chief
executive should have ACCA qualification".
