ACCA chief executive earns more than £161,000 per annum and directors earn more than £100,000 per year. This gives them all the creature comforts of the world. But it does not encourage any reflection on how other people live.
ACCA has issued a press release to say that it opposes the raising of the minimum wage to £5 per hour which amounts to only £10,000 per annum, around 50% of the average salary in the UK. This is totally inadequate to enable people to provide food, shelter, clothing, education and healthcare for their families. The social inequalities in Britain are now at their acutest since the 1960s. The exploitation of workers is destroying families and encouraging petty crime.
Without talking to anyone caught in the poverty trap the ACCA feels
that £5 hour is too much. Perhaps, the ACCA establishment will try
living on that wage and see how it manages. Besides, why is the ACCA spending
members' monies to campaign for low wages, poverty, misery and exploitation
of people.
